FAQ
Questions, answered straight.
What we do, what we do not, and what it costs. If something is not here, ask us.
Eligibility
Who is RDTI for?
Australian companies with an in-house engineering team whose work lives in GitHub, building software where the outcome was not known in advance. If you are mostly doing routine build, configuration, or integration work, it is probably not a fit, and we will tell you so.
How do you decide what counts as R&D?
We test each activity against the statutory four-gate test: technical uncertainty, systematic progression, new knowledge, and not being an excluded activity. We bias toward precision. When something is borderline we leave it out, because a claim you cannot defend is worse than no claim.
Pricing
How much does it cost?
We charge a flat fee to prepare your claim package, not a percentage of your refund. That keeps our incentive aligned with an accurate, defensible claim rather than an inflated number.
The process and your adviser
Do you lodge my claim?
No. We prepare and substantiate the claim package. You and your registered tax adviser or accountant review it, sign off, and lodge it through your company tax return. We are not a tax agent and we do not provide tax advice.
Do I need my own tax adviser or accountant?
Yes. You lodge through your own registered tax adviser or accountant. We give you and them an evidence-backed package to review; the decision to lodge, and responsibility for the claim, is yours and theirs.
How much of my time does it take?
The guided part, connecting GitHub and answering the interview, takes about an hour. We do the reading of your pull request history for you.
Your code and data
What do you access, and is my code safe?
We read your repository history (pull requests, commits, contributors, and timestamps) to find candidate R&D. See "How we keep your code and data secure" on our blog for the details.
Do you train AI on my code?
No. We never train models on your code or your data.
What if my code is not in GitHub?
Right now we support GitHub only. Support for other providers like GitLab and Bitbucket is coming. Tell us what you use and we will let you know when it lands.
After you lodge
What happens if the ATO reviews or audits my claim?
That is handled by you and your tax adviser, not us. We generate the evidence from your input and hand it to you; you, your adviser, or your accountant are responsible for signing off on and standing behind the claim.
When do I receive the offset?
Offsets are generally received a couple of weeks after the claim is submitted, subject to the ATO's processing times.
